It's that time of year again...

...time to plan your weekend meals around what people will be serving at their graduation receptions.

Just kidding?...

:)

HOWEVER, today, I did attend the party of one of my VERY most favorite ladies of all... Miss Julia. (PS Julia, the sandwiches were AWESOME!!!)

Julia is hilarious, and gorgeous. She is compassionate and all smiles - the kind of gal who could brighten a basement room in the middle of the night in an electrical outage. She loves Jesus with her whole heart, she is full of positivity, and she is one of the best dancers I've ever seen. Don't even THINK about getting into a dance-off with her... you WILL lose. Just ask Josh.

SIDE-NOTE: (I am fully aware that most of you have absolutely no idea who "Josh" is but, just in case he happens to read this, I just felt it necessary to remind him about his MAJOR loss to Julia after youth group recently. Sorry Josh... just kidding. I am TOTALLY not sorry and I count it a privilege to have watched Julia SCHOOL you the other night).

In addition to all of the above, I have to comment on this... whenever I am going to make something for someone, (Julia's graduation gift in this case) I always ask them what their favorite color is so that I can create their piece accordingly. When I asked this question of Julia, she gave me the most interesting answer I think I have ever gotten...

Me: Hey Julia, what's your favorite color?

Julia: White, no question.

Me: Ok... except white isn't actually a color, rather, the absence of color.

Julia: Oh, really? Ok, then, I'll say "rainbow".

Me: "Rainbow" is your favorite color? Really?

Julia: Ya, that, and white.

Me: I love you Julia

Julia: I love you to Emily

HUG.

A few shots from today...
Doesn't she look like an angel?...
I came bearing gifts...
Smooches...
Julia my dear, congratulations on your graduation!!! I love you so much and I can't wait to see what God has in store for you! Whatever it is, I KNOW it's gonna be amazing and I'm glad you're sticking around so I'll have a front row seat. :)

Much Love,
Em

Memorial weekend extras...

Here are several more shots from our Memorial Day weekend that I wanted to share, but I didn't feel they necessarily fit with yesterday's post...

We started off our Saturday with Lillie's soccer game - she won, of course :) (Lil is the one on the far left)...
Getting the best view possible (they had swapped spots since this picture and the best moment was when Sophie announced she had gotten snot in Uncle Matt's hair)...
After the game the girls were VERY excited to go with "Bubble Grandma" and "Bubble Grandpa" to go "pick up chicks" as Isabel informed us. (Gabe's parents earned their "bubble" titles after blowing bubbles with Lillie once when she was pretty small. Ever since, they have been the "Bubble Grandparents")...
The "Bubble Grandparents" live out in the country about an hour from where we live. Their nearest neighbors live about a mile away and it is always so beautiful and peaceful out on the farm...
Bubble Grandma's smiley dog Murphy...
Jut adding a little corn to the brick soup that was brewing in the birdbath...
Monday we spent the day with my side of the family. What's a summertime holiday without a little bocce ball right!? Mom and Chris won... and I managed to smack Gabe square in the head (not sure if you've ever played before but bocce balls are HEAVY)...
More shots from the cemetery...
Isabel snapping a shot of the swan with her new camera...
My little family...Happily,
Emily

Remembering often...

One day a year is not near often enough to remember and be thankful for the people who have served and the lives that have been lost in order to protect us and secure freedom on our behalf.

Both of my grandparents on my mother's side served in the United States Navy, and, though they didn't die during their service to their country, they were both laid to rest in the most honorable fashion I can imagine, caskets having been draped with American flags.

Though their service isn't something they talked often about (it was only after my grandmother passed away that I found out that she helped to translate Japanese transmissions during WWII!) it was something that I was amazed by and was always quite proud of.

Yesterday, we made our way to the section of Memorial Park Cemetery reserved for the burial of military veterans, and there, past the rows and rows of American flags, beneath a small evergreen, we found their spot. The spot where their earthly bodies have been laid to rest side-by-side, forever honored for the sacrifices they made.
Yes, I do miss my grandparents, but, knowing that they are both in a far better place than anywhere on this green earth, the most emotional and moving part of our visit, for me, did not come from a place of mourning, but more so from a sense of pride, welling up inside of me. I love my country more than I could ever express and looking at the rows of American flags, waving regally in the wind, and looking out across the hills where tiny flags marked the places where hundreds of people now lay to rest - some giving of their time to serve this country, and others giving their lives... for me... it was all I could do to keep from letting my emotions get the better of me. Those people fought for what was right and were willing to give their lives in order to ensure that the coming generations would be able to live free.

Thank you Grandpa and Grandma J., as well as anyone else who has ever heeded the call and joined any branch of the United Stated military. We are forever grateful and may we NEVER forget the things that you have done (and continue to do) for us, to ensure safety and freedom for us all. Never forgetting,
Emily

So close I can almost taste it...

This is only the second full year that I have had to deal with all the excitement and hullabaloo that is "kids in school full time" and as crazy as it can get during the year, I had nearly forgotten how UBER-crazy things can get during the last several weeks before summer vacation.

With T-minus 2.5 days left, I can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel where things might, just MAYBE slow down a bit.... and a slow down may be just what the Dr. ordered...
Sum-mah time here I come!!!

And now, for a little show-n-tell...
A couple custom orders, a graduation gift, and a few goodies for you!

Emily

"Peek at my Pad" Thursday (on Sunday) #25...

Please forgive my tardiness. This past Thursday was spent attending a funeral as well as preparing for Lillie's 7th bday kiddo-party. It has been quite "whirlwindy" around here lately!!!

Here are a few shots of Lillie's room. She is our ladybug girl and her room reflects that quite well...

Those little shelving units with the tubs, along with a few rolling storage bins that are tucked under their beds are some of the BEST INVESTMENTS I've made yet as far as the kiddos are concerned. Worth their weight in stuffed animals... which is what a few of them are stuffed with.

Happily,
Emily

Billboard...

Maybe this won't strike any of you as funny the way it did me but, what the hey.

Here is a billboard I see every time I drive to my parents house. I laugh every time. :)

Facebookin' it...

ALRIGHT already!... so I'll just come right out and say it...

"Hi. My name is Emily and I'm admittedly, a facebook-a-holic"

(croud: "Hi Emily")

C'mon, you know you're hooked too...

I'm not quite as bad as some people I know (excuses excuses, I know...) but, I WILL admit to it being a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine :)

THUS... I have taken the liberty of creating a page for my jewelry under the name of "EmeliaRo" which, if you'd like, you are more than welcome to check out here and I'd love it if you'd drop me a line to let me know you found my page via my blog! Oh how we're all so connected... or soon will be at least...

...gotta go update my status now... ;)

Happily,
Em

For my Mamma...

(Isn't she LOVELY!?? True to "mom form", I have absolutely NO pictures of my mom by herself since she is usually the one behind the camera, so, I had to settle for cropping dad out of one of the shots from Christmas - I'm sure he'll get over it).

Happy Mother's day Mom! I don't know how you did it... You raised 4 kids to to become productive, well-mannered, functional adults...

...well, let me rephrase that...

...You raised 4 kids.

Hehehe. You know I'm just playin'. :)

Thank you for everything Mom. I am the mom I am today because you were then, and continue to be, the phenomenal mother that you are.

Happy Mother's Day Mom!
Love you Lots,
Em

My baby is a big girl...

(Showing off her new birthday ring and fancy "birthday party hair" ala Aunt Allison. The back was all curled and pinned up "princess style").

7 years ago today I became a mommy for the very first time. I remember feeling EXTREMELY nervous but strangely enough, quite prepared. I had never parented anyone before, but since it was an immediate reality (no escape by that point) it was like I was suddenly mentally ready. It was like nothing I had read in any book meant anything, but everything my parents had said and done came flooding back. I knew that, though nothing in parenthood is ever completely predictable, I was confident that there would never be an issue Gabe and I wouldn’t be able to handle together as Daddy and Mommy.

Can it really be true that my oldest baby is really turning 7 YEARS OLD?!??? I don’t know if I’m ready for this. For some reason going from 5 to 6 was not a big deal. Even starting Kindergarten didn’t phase me too much, but this turning 7 business!?? I just don’t know.

To my sweet Lillie Bug - Saying "I love you to the moon and back" does not begin to cover it. You are so wise beyond your years and I am so thankful that God chose to give you to Daddy and Me. I so look forward to watching you grow and getting to know the woman that you are well on your way to becoming.

Happy birthday Lil. I love you so much

Love,
Mommy

"Peek at my Pad" Thursday" #25...

Does your house have a "Barbie corner"??? Mine does. And if there are any little girls living at your house, I'm sure yours does too.

Ours includes a (recently upgraded in size) tub-o-barbies (containing more Barbies than there are little girl hands to play with them, a Barbie car, a Barbie kitchen set, Barbie blankets, Barbie sports equipment, Barbie horses, Barbie dogs, skateboards for the Barbie dogs, and more clothes/shoes/accessories than you could shake a stick at - whatever that means???) and a 2-story Barbie ski lodge made for me entirely out of plastic canvas and yarn by my grandmother when I was young - an irreplaceable treasure (sometime I'll show you a pic of what it looks like inside, couch, barstools, and all. It is AMAZING). It would not be a stretch to say that I have threatened the girls within an inch of their lives if they do not treat this little house with the utmost care and love and for the time being, Sophie isn't allowed anywhere within a 5 foot radius of it while playtime is underway. :)

Happily,
Emily

Fresh mustard...

I think I showed this off along with several other things a week or so ago but I didn't ever show you the accompanying quote...

Question...

HOW do little girls just know to "pose" when their photograph is being taken??? It's like it's just IN them to be fancy.

Sophie and Isabel getting ready for "Ladies Day" (I wish I had gotten a better shot of all the jewelry they were wearing)...

Sophie showing off her outfit... my favorite part is the thick slipper socks stuffed into her shoes and pulled up over her jeans...

ALRIGHTY! I'm heading down to my happy place to finish up a few pretties and start a few more!... You may want to start scooching towards the edge of your seat now just so you'll be prepared...

Happily,
Emily
